Senior Survival School
Senior Survival School

Founded in 1992, Senior Survival School is a community education program of Planning for Elders in the Central City. Our curriculum focuses on transportation, housing, and healthcare issues, as well as other information that keeps people living safely in their own homes and communities.

Utilizing presentations, discussions, and popular education activities, Senior Survival School trains seniors and adults with disabilities to effectively access vital community resources and to exercise their rights when they do. Our classes invite participants to draw upon their own experiences, to exchange ideas with each other and with the presenters, and to collectively develop solutions to common problems. All sessions are free of cost, and healthy refreshments are always provided.

To date Senior Survival School has trained approximately 2200 seniors and adults with disabilities, providing access to important information, and developing our participants as strong advocates for themselves and each other. Classes and materials have been translated into Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Italian, and Korean, and have reached people in communities throughout the city.
